The twelve knew nothing of \n        their Master&#8217;s plans except that they were going up to Jerusalem to attend \n        the Passover feast in April, and that it was the intention to journey \n        by way of the Jordan valley. They did not get away from Zebedee&#8217;s house \n        until near noon because the families of the apostles and others of the \n        disciples had come to say good-bye and wish them well in the new work \n        they were about to begin.<br>\n    <\/font><\/td>\n    <td><p>Godspeed = \ud589\uc6b4, \uc131\uacf5<\/p>\n    <p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr> \n    <td width=\"45%\"><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1587 &#8211; &sect;2 Just before leaving, the apostles missed \n        the Master, and Andrew went out to find him. After a brief search he found \n        Jesus sitting in a boat down the beach, and he was weeping. The twelve \n        had often seen their Master when he seemed to grieve, and they had beheld \n        his brief seasons of serious preoccupation of mind, but none of them had \n        ever seen him weep. Andrew was somewhat startled to see the Master thus \n        affected on the eve of their departure for Jerusalem, and he ventured \n        to approach Jesus and ask: &quot;On this great day, Master, when we are \n        to depart for Jerusalem to proclaim the Father&#8217;s kingdom, why is it that \n        you weep? Which of us has offended you?&quot; And Jesus, going back with \n        Andrew to join the twelve, answered him: &quot;No one of you has grieved \n        me. I am saddened only because none of my father Joseph&#8217;s family have \n        remembered to come over to bid us Godspeed.&quot; At this time Ruth was \n        on a visit to her brother Joseph at Nazareth. Other members of his family \n        were kept away by pride, disappointment, misunderstanding, and petty resentment \n        indulged as a result of hurt feelings.<br>\n        <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><\/p><\/td>\n    <td width=\"55%\"><font size=\"5\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">1. LEAVING GALILEE &#8211; P.1587<br>\n    <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1587 &#8211; &sect;3 Capernaum was not far from Tiberias, \n        and the fame of Jesus had begun to spread well over all of Galilee and \n        even to parts beyond. Jesus knew that Herod would soon begin to take notice \n        of his work; so he thought best to journey south and into Judea with his \n        apostles. A company of over one hundred believers desired to go with them, \n        but Jesus spoke to them and besought them not to accompany the apostolic \n        group on their way down the Jordan. Though they consented to remain behind, \n        many of them followed after the Master within a few days.<br>\n    <\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>take notice of something, ~\uc744 \uc8fc\ubaa9\ud558\ub2e4<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">P.1587 &#8211; &sect;4 The first day Jesus and the apostles \n      only journeyed as far as Tarichea, where they rested for the night. The \n      next day they traveled to a point on the Jordan near Pella where John \n      had preached about one year before, and where Jesus had received baptism. \n      Here they tarried for more than two weeks, teaching and preaching. By \n      the end of the first week several hundred people had assembled in <br>\n    <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1588 &#8211; &sect;0 a camp near where Jesus and the twelve \n        dwelt, and they had come from Galilee, Phoenicia, Syria, the Decapolis, \n        Perea, and Judea.<br>\n    <\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1588 &#8211; &sect;1 Jesus did no public preaching. Andrew \n        divided the multitude and assigned the preachers for the forenoon and \n        afternoon assemblies; after the evening meal Jesus talked with the twelve. \n        He taught them nothing new but reviewed his former teaching and answered \n        their many questions. On one of these evenings he told the twelve something \n        about the forty days which he spent in the hills near this place.<br>\n    <\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td><p>\uc624\uc804, \uc624\ud6c4: \uc81c\uc790\ub4e4\uc774 \uac00\ub974\uce58\uace0<\/p>\n    <p>\uc800\ub141 \uc2dc\uac04<\/p><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr> \n    <td><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n      <p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1588 &#8211; &sect;2 Many of those who came from Perea and \n        Judea had been baptized by John and were interested in finding out more \n        about Jesus&#8217; teachings. The apostles made much progress in teaching the \n        disciples of John inasmuch as they did not in any way detract from John&#8217;s \n        preaching, and since they did not at this time even baptize their new \n        disciples. But it was always a stumbling stone to John&#8217;s followers that \n        Jesus, if he were all that John had announced, did nothing to get him \n        out of prison. John&#8217;s disciples never could understand why Jesus did not \n        prevent the cruel death of their beloved leader.<br>\n      <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1588 &#8211; &sect;3 From night to night Andrew carefully \n        instructed his fellow apostles in the delicate and difficult task of getting \n        along smoothly with the followers of John the Baptist. During this first \n        year of Jesus&#8217; public ministry more than three fourths of his followers \n        had previously followed John and had received his baptism. This entire \n        year of A.D. 27 was spent in quietly taking over John&#8217;s work in Perea \n        and Judea.<br>\n        <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><\/p><\/td>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\"><a href=\"images\/b\/bed004.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/b\/bed004.gif\" width=\"235\" height=\"300\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/font><\/p>\n    <p>\uc81c\uc790\ub4e4 \uc911, 3\/4 \uc774\uc0c1\uc774 \uc694\ud55c\uc758 \ucd94\uc885\uc790<\/p>\n    <p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">2. GOD&#8217;S LAW AND THE FATHER&#8217;S WILL &#8211; P.1588<br>\n    <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1588 &#8211; &sect;4 The night before they left Pella, Jesus \n        gave the apostles some further instruction with regard to the new kingdom. \n        Said the Master: &quot;You have been taught to look for the coming of \n        the kingdom of God, and now I come announcing that this long-looked-for \n        kingdom is near at hand, even that it is already here and in our midst. \n        In every kingdom there must be a king seated upon his throne and decreeing \n        the laws of the realm. And so have you developed a concept of the kingdom \n        of heaven as a glorified rule of the Jewish people over all the peoples \n        of the earth with Messiah sitting on David&#8217;s throne and from this place \n        of miraculous power promulgating the laws of all the world. But, my children, \n        you see not with the eye of faith, and you hear not with the understanding \n        of the spirit. <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">I declare that the kingdom of heaven is the realization \n        and acknowledgment of God&#8217;s rule within the hearts of men. True, there \n        is a King in this kingdom, and that King is my Father and your Father. \n        We are indeed his loyal subjects, but far transcending that fact is the \n        transforming truth that we are his sons. In my life this truth is to become \n        manifest to all. Our Father also sits upon a throne, but not one made \n        with hands. The throne of the Infinite is the eternal dwelling place of \n        the Father in the heaven of heavens; he fills all things and proclaims \n        his laws to universes upon universes. Verily, verily, I say to you, <br>\n      <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1589 &#8211; &sect;0 when the Father&#8217;s will is your law, you \n        are hardly in the kingdom. But when the Father&#8217;s will becomes truly your \n        will, then are you in very truth in the kingdom because the kingdom has \n        thereby become an established experience in you. When God&#8217;s will is your \n        law, you are noble slave subjects; but when you believe in this new gospel \n        of divine sonship, my Father&#8217;s will becomes your will, and you are elevated \n        to the high position of the free children of God, liberated sons of the \n        kingdom.&quot;<br>\n      <\/font><\/p>\n    <p><font size=\"5\"><\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>privilege &lt; private + leg (law), \uac1c\uc778\uc5d0\uac8c \uc801\uc6a9\ub418\ub294 \ubc95, \ud2b9\uad8c<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr> \n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">P.1589 &#8211; &sect;1 Some of the apostles grasped something \n        of this teaching, but none of them comprehended the full significance \n        of this tremendous announcement, unless it was James Zebedee. But these \n        words sank into their hearts and came forth to gladden their ministry \n        during later years of service.<br>\n        <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><\/p><\/td>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">&nbsp;<\/font> <\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">3. THE SOJOURN AT AMATHUS &#8211; P.1589<br>\n    <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1589 &#8211; &sect;2 The Master and his apostles remained \n        near Amathus for almost three weeks. The apostles continued to preach \n        twice daily to the multitude, and Jesus preached each Sabbath afternoon. \n        It became impossible to continue the Wednesday playtime; so Andrew arranged \n        that two apostles should rest each day of the six days in the week, while \n        all were on duty during the Sabbath services.<br>\n    <\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">P.1589 &#8211; &sect;3 Peter, James, and John did most of the \n        public preaching. Philip, Nathaniel, Thomas, and Simon did much of the \n        personal work and conducted classes for special groups of inquirers; the \n        twins continued their general police supervision, while Andrew, Matthew, \n        and Judas developed into a general managerial committee of three, although \n        each of these three also did considerable religious work.<br>\n    <\/font><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">P.1589 &#8211; &sect;4 Andrew was much occupied with the task \n        of adjusting the constantly recurring misunderstandings and disagreements \n        between the disciples of John and the newer disciples of Jesus. Serious \n        situations would arise every few days, but Andrew, with the assistance \n        of his apostolic associates, managed to induce the contending parties \n        to come to some sort of agreement, at least temporarily. Jesus refused \n        to participate in any of these conferences; neither would he give any \n        advice about the proper adjustment of these difficulties. He never once \n        offered a suggestion as to how the apostles should solve these perplexing \n        problems. When Andrew came to Jesus with these questions, he would always \n        say: &quot;It is not wise for the host to participate in the family troubles \n        of his guests; a wise parent never takes sides in the petty quarrels of \n    his own children.&quot; <\/font><\/td>\n    <td><p>participage in (~\uc5d0 \ucc38\uac00\ud558\ub2e4)<\/p>\n    <p>perplex, \ub2f9\ud669\uc2dc\ud0a4\ub2e4<\/p><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">P.1589 &#8211; &sect;5 The Master displayed great wisdom and \n        manifested perfect fairness in all of his dealings with his apostles and \n        with all of his disciples. Jesus was truly a master of men; he exercised \n        great influence over his fellow men because of the combined charm and \n        force of his personality. There was a subtle commanding influence in his \n        rugged, nomadic, and homeless life. There was intellectual attractiveness \n        and spiritual drawing power in his authoritative manner of teaching, in \n        his lucid logic, his strength of reasoning, his sagacious insight, his \n        alertness of mind, his matchless poise, and his sublime tolerance. He \n        was simple, manly, honest, and fearless. With all of this physical and \n        intellectual influence manifest in the Master&#8217;s presence, there were also \n        all those spiritual charms of being which have become associated with \n        his personality&#8211;patience, tenderness, meekness, gentleness, and humility.<br>\n    <\/font><\/td>\n    <td><p>lucid &lt; lucere (shine) &lt; lux (light)<\/p>\n    <p>sagacious &lt; sagax (wise), \ud604\uba85\ud55c<\/p><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">P.1589 &#8211; &sect;6 Jesus of Nazareth was indeed a strong \n      and forceful personality; he was an intellectual power and a spiritual \n      stronghold. His personality not only appealed <br>\n    <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1590 &#8211; &sect;0 to the spiritually minded women among \n        his followers, but also to the educated and intellectual Nicodemus and \n        to the hardy Roman soldier, the captain stationed on guard at the cross, \n        who, when he had finished watching the Master die, said, &quot;Truly, \n        this was a Son of God.&quot; And red-blooded, rugged Galilean fishermen \n        called him Master.<br>\n    <\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>stronghold, \uc694\uc0c8<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">P.1590 &#8211; &sect;1 The pictures of Jesus have been most \n      unfortunate. These paintings of the Christ have exerted a deleterious \n      influence on youth; the temple merchants would hardly have fled before \n      Jesus if he had been such a man as your artists usually have depicted. \n      His was a dignified manhood; he was good, but natural. Jesus did not pose \n      as a mild, sweet, gentle, and kindly mystic. His teaching was thrillingly \n      dynamic. He not only meant well, but he went about actually doing good.<br>\n    <\/font><\/p>\n    <p><font size=\"5\"><\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>deleterious (Greek), \ud574\ub85c\uc6b4<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr> \n    <td><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n      <p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1590 &#8211; &sect;2 The Master never said, &quot;Come to \n        me all you who are indolent and all who are dreamers.&quot; But he did \n        many times say, &quot;Come to me all you who labor, and I will give you \n        rest&#8211;spiritual strength.&quot; The Master&#8217;s yoke is, indeed, easy, but \n        even so, he never imposes it; every individual must take this yoke of \n        his own free will.<br>\n        <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1590 &#8211; &sect;3 Jesus portrayed conquest by sacrifice, \n        the sacrifice of pride and selfishness. By showing mercy, he meant to \n        portray spiritual deliverance from all grudges, grievances, anger, and \n        the lust for selfish power and revenge. And when he said, &quot;Resist \n        not evil,&quot; he later explained that he did not mean to condone sin \n        or to counsel fraternity with iniquity. TEACHING ABOUT THE FATHER &#8211; P.1590<br>\n    <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1590 &#8211; &sect;4 While sojourning at Amathus, Jesus spent \n        much time with the apostles instructing them in the new concept of God; \n        again and again did he impress upon them that God is a Father, not a great \n        and supreme bookkeeper who is chiefly engaged in making damaging entries \n        against his erring children on earth, recordings of sin and evil to be \n        used against them when he subsequently sits in judgment upon them as the \n        just Judge of all creation. The Jews had long conceived of God as a king \n        over all, even as a Father of the nation, but never before had large numbers \n        of mortal men held the idea of God as a loving Father of the individual.<br>\n    <\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>\uc544\ubc84\uc9c0\ub77c\ub294 \uac1c\ub150\uc744 \uac15\uc870\ud558\uc600\ub2e4<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">P.1590 &#8211; &sect;5 In answer to Thomas&#8217;s question, &quot;Who \n        is this God of the kingdom?&quot; Jesus replied: &quot;God is your Father, \n        and religion&#8211;my gospel&#8211;is nothing more nor less than the believing recognition \n        of the truth that you are his son. And I am here among you in the flesh \n        to make clear both of these ideas in my life and teachings.&quot;<br>\n    <\/font><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">P.1590 &#8211; &sect;6 Jesus also sought to free the minds of \n        his apostles from the idea of offering animal sacrifices as a religious \n        duty. But these men, trained in the religion of the daily sacrifice, were \n        slow to comprehend what he meant. Nevertheless, the Master did not grow \n        weary in his teaching. When he failed to reach the minds of all of the \n        apostles by means of one illustration, he would restate his message and \n        employ another type of parable for purposes of illumination.<br>\n    <\/font><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">P.1590 &#8211; &sect;7 At this same time Jesus began to teach \n      the twelve more fully concerning their mission &quot;to comfort the afflicted \n      and minister to the sick.&quot; The Master taught them much about the \n      whole man&#8211;the union of body, mind, and spirit to form the individual \n      man or woman. Jesus told his associates about the three forms of <br>\n    <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1591 &#8211; &sect;0 affliction they would meet and went on \n        to explain how they should minister to all who suffer the sorrows of human \n        sickness. He taught them to recognize:<\/font><\/p>\n    <p><font size=\"5\"><\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1591 &#8211; &sect;1 1. Diseases of the flesh&#8211;those afflictions \n        commonly regarded as physical sickness.<\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1591 &#8211; &sect;2 2. Troubled minds&#8211;those nonphysical \n        afflictions which were subsequently looked upon as emotional and mental \n        difficulties and disturbances.<\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1591 &#8211; &sect;3 3. The possession of evil spirits.<\/font><\/p>\n    <p><font size=\"5\"><\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>\uc721\uccb4\uc758 \ubcd1, \uc815\uc2e0 \ubcd1, \uc545\ub839\uc5d0 \ub4e4\ub9ac\ub294 \uac83<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">P.1591 &#8211; &sect;4 Jesus explained to his apostles on several \n        occasions the nature, and something concerning the origin, of these evil \n        spirits, in that day often also called unclean spirits. The Master well \n        knew the difference between the possession of evil spirits and insanity, \n        but the apostles did not. Neither was it possible, in view of their limited \n        knowledge of the early history of Urantia, for Jesus to undertake to make \n        this matter fully understandable. But he many times said to them, alluding \n        to these evil spirits: &quot;They shall no more molest men when I shall \n        have ascended to my Father in heaven, and after I shall have poured out \n        my spirit upon all flesh in those times when the kingdom will come in \n        great power and spiritual glory.&quot;<br>\n    <\/font><\/td>\n    <td><p>in that day (\uadf8 \uc2dc\uc808\uc5d0)<\/p>\n    <p>molest, \ud76c\ub871\ud558\ub2e4, \uac74\ub4dc\ub9ac\ub2e4.<\/p><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr> \n    <td><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1591 &#8211; &sect;5 From week to week and from month to month, \n        throughout this entire year, the apostles paid more and more attention \n        to the healing ministry of the sick.<br>\n        <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><\/p><\/td>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">5. SPIRITUAL UNITY &#8211; P.1591<br>\n    <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1591 &#8211; &sect;6 One of the most eventful of all the evening \n        conferences at Amathus was the session having to do with the discussion \n        of spiritual unity. James Zebedee had asked, &quot;Master, how shall we \n        learn to see alike and thereby enjoy more harmony among ourselves?&quot; \n        When Jesus heard this question, he was stirred within his spirit, so much \n        so that he replied: &quot;James, James, when did I teach you that you \n        should all see alike? I have come into the world to proclaim spiritual \n        liberty to the end that mortals may be empowered to live individual lives \n      of originality and freedom before God.<\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\"> I do not desire that social harmony \n        and fraternal peace shall be purchased by the sacrifice of free personality \n        and spiritual originality. What I require of you, my apostles, is spirit \n        unity&#8211;and that you can experience in the joy of your united dedication \n        to the wholehearted doing of the will of my Father in heaven. You do not \n        have to see alike or feel alike or even think alike in order spiritually \n        to be alike. Spiritual unity is derived from the consciousness that each \n        of you is indwelt, and increasingly dominated, by the spirit gift of the \n        heavenly Father. Teherma had heard of Jesus and had come to Capernaum to see \n        him, and there learning that Jesus had gone with his apostles down the \n        Jordan on the way to Jerusalem, he set out to find him. Andrew had presented \n        Teherma to Simon for instruction. Simon looked upon the Persian as a &quot;fire \n        worshiper,&quot; although Teherma took great pains to explain that fire \n        was only the visible symbol of the Pure and Holy One. Jesus with his apostles remained here, teaching and preaching, \n        for four weeks before they went on up to Jerusalem.<br>\n    <\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>\uc608\ub8e8\uc0b4\ub818\uc73c\ub85c \uc62c\ub77c \uac00\uae30 \uc804<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">P.1593 &#8211; &sect;3 The second week of the sojourn at Bethany \n      beyond Jordan, Jesus took Peter, James, and John into the hills across \n      the river and south of Jericho for a three days&#8217; rest. He exemplified a new and original plan \n        of life. From the human standpoint he was indeed a Jew, but he lived his \n        life for all the world as a mortal of the realm.<br>\n    <\/font><\/td>\n    <td>edify &lt; edificare (build), \ud6c8\uc721\ud558\ub2e4<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1594 &#8211; &sect;2 To insure the recognition of his Father \n        in the unfolding of the plan of the kingdom, Jesus explained that he had \n        purposely ignored the &quot;great men of earth.&quot; He began his work \n        with the poor, the very class which had been so neglected by most of the \n        evolutionary religions of preceding times. He despised no man; his plan \n        was world-wide, even universal. But the apostles could not grasp the meaning \n        of his words.<br>\n    <\/font><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">P.1594 &#8211; &sect;4 He announced that he had come to function \n        as a teacher, a teacher sent from heaven to present spiritual truth to \n        the material mind. And this is exactly what he did; he was a teacher, \n        not a preacher. From the human viewpoint Peter was a much more effective \n        preacher than Jesus. Jesus&#8217; preaching was so effective because of his \n        unique personality, not so much because of compelling oratory or emotional \n        appeal. Jesus spoke directly to men&#8217;s souls. He was a teacher of man&#8217;s \n        spirit, but through the mind. He paid no attention to public opinion, and he \n        was uninfluenced by praise. He seldom paused to correct misunderstandings \n        or to resent misrepresentation. And he was always \n        unselfish.<br>\n    <\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr> \n    <td><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1595 &#8211; &sect;1 Although Peter, James, and John could \n        not understand very much of what Jesus said on this occasion, his gracious \n        words lingered in their hearts, and after the crucifixion and resurrection \n        they came forth greatly to enrich and gladden their subsequent ministry. \n        No wonder these apostles did not fully comprehend the Master&#8217;s words, \n        for he was projecting to them the plan of a new age.<br>\n        <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><\/p><\/td>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">8. WORKING IN JERICHO &#8211; P.1595<br>\n    <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1595 &#8211; &sect;2 Throughout the four weeks&#8217; sojourn at \n        Bethany beyond Jordan, several times each week Andrew would assign apostolic \n        couples to go up to Jericho for a day or two. John had many believers \n        in Jericho, and the majority of them welcomed the more advanced teachings \n        of Jesus and his apostles. On these Jericho visits the apostles began \n        more specifically to carry out Jesus&#8217; instructions to minister to the \n        sick; they visited every house in the city and sought to comfort every \n        afflicted person.<br>\n    <\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">P.1595 &#8211; &sect;3 The apostles did some public work in \n        Jericho, but their efforts were chiefly of a more quiet and personal nature. \n        They now made the discovery that the good news of the kingdom was very \n        comforting to the sick; that their message carried healing for the afflicted. \n        And it was in Jericho that Jesus&#8217; commission to the twelve to preach the \n        glad tidings of the kingdom and minister to the afflicted was first fully \n        carried into effect.<br>\n    <\/font><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">P.1595 &#8211; &sect;4 They stopped in Jericho on the way up \n        to Jerusalem and were overtaken by a delegation from Mesopotamia that \n        had come to confer with Jesus. The apostles had planned to spend but a \n        day here, but when these truth seekers from the East arrived, Jesus spent \n        three days with them, and they returned to their various homes along the \n    Euphrates happy in the knowledge of the new truths of the kingdom of heaven.<\/font><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><p><font size=\"5\">9. DEPARTING FOR JERUSALEM &#8211; P.1595<br>\n    <\/font><\/p>\n      <p><font size=\"5\">P.1595 &#8211; &sect;5 On Monday, the last day of March, Jesus \n        and the apostles began their journey up the hills toward Jerusalem. Lazarus \n        of Bethany had been down to the Jordan twice to see Jesus, and every arrangement \n        had been made for the Master and his apostles to make their headquarters \n        with Lazarus and his sisters at Bethany as long as they might desire to \n        stay in Jerusalem.<br>\n    <\/font><\/p><\/td>\n    <td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n  <\/tr>\n  <tr>\n    <td><font size=\"5\">P.1595 &#8211; &sect;6 The disciples of John remained at Bethany \n        beyond the Jordan, teaching and baptizing the multitudes, so that Jesus \n        was accompanied only by the twelve when he arrived at Lazarus&#8217;s home. \n        Here Jesus and the apostles tarried for five days, resting and refreshing \n        themselves before going on to Jerusalem for the Passover.
